"There are ambitious plans for NHS maternity services in England. By 2009 all women will have choice over where and how they give birth, and support from the same midwife throughout pregnancy. To achieve this we must tackle the chronic shortage of midwives. There is more and more evidence of vacant posts not being recruited to, places for student midwives and training budgets being cut, and much more. What is worse, many newly-qualified midwives find it impossible to find work as a midwife. This is terrible outcome for a new midwife after years of study. It is also a blow to taxpayers, who invest £15,000 on each student midwife every year. A one-year jobs guarantee for newly-qualified midwives would ensure that they are brought into the profession. This is already happening in Scotland, thanks to devolution. That would help to secure the future of midwifery and maternity services in England. Ultimately that is in the best interests of women and their families."

Same old racist Tories?
The BBC reports "Black MPs spurn Boris mayoral bid". Who are these MP's? Well they are both from the labour party (what a huge blow to Boris)
1) The hypocrtiacal Diane Abbott MP for Hackney North
2) All black short list selected Dawn Butler MP for Brent South (and they suggest Tories are racist!)
They claim comments he wrote in a 2002 article where he wrote about the Queen being greeted in Commonwealth countries by "flag-waving piccaninnies"were offensive. What hypocrits they are . Here Boris Johnson does not say anything racist but that does not stop them from making these suggestions.
I don't remember either of them speaking up when Ken Livingstone made those hugely offensive remarks to the Evening Standards Jewish reporter. Also what about the Anti-semetic comments he made about the Simon and David Reuben brothers? It is the labour party that needs to look at intolerence within it's ranks.

Biased BBC
When are we going to wake up?!
Here we have another article questioning the impartiality of the BBC .
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6928181. At least this time it is reported on the BBC's own website (don't call it the "beeb" it symbolises it as a national treasure)
"The way Sir Michael Lyons was appointed BBC chairman has come under attack from an all-party select committee.
The government's role in appointing the chairman of the BBC Trust should be limited, according to a House of Lords Communications Committee report. "
This is clearly cronyism from Gordon Brown. We have heard journalists like Robin Aitken produce example after example of left wing bias. The question is what to do about it ? I doubt either this government or any future one will be brave enough to privatise it.
So I want your suggestions. What can we do ?
